Tips for using this page
- Add a row when you finish a book, not when you start it. The numbers down the side then count finished books, and the last filled row is your total for the period.
- Choose your own rating scale and note it in a corner of the first sheet: stars out of five, a mark out of ten, or a single word. The rating column is blank so that any scale fits.
- The version with pages and notes is meant for study reading. Use the notes cell for the chapter that mattered or the page of a quotation you will need again.
- Abandoned books can have a row too. Write the title and put a dash in the finished column; a log that includes them is a more accurate picture of what you tried.
- Fifteen rows is the default. If you read more than that in the period you are logging, set twenty rows or continue on a second sheet and number it by hand.
- Keep the page inside the cover of your current book, folded once, so it is at hand on the day you finish.
Questions
Is this the same as a children's reading chart?
No. There are no stars, stickers or rewards on it. It is a plain list for adult and student readers, with an author column and a personal rating.
Can I log audiobooks and articles?
Yes. A row is whatever you decide to count. Many people mark audiobooks with a small A beside the title.
How many books fit on one page?
Between 8 and 20 rows. At 20 the rows are still tall enough for a title written in normal handwriting.
Can I use it as a to-read list?
Yes. Change the page title, pick the three-column version and leave the finished column empty until each book is read.
