Plain Planner

Meals and home

These three pages cover the recurring admin of a shared home. Each starts with sensible sample headings that you can change to match your kitchen, your store and the people you live with.

How the three household pages work together

The weekly meal planner has the days down the side and one column per meal. You decide which meals get a column: dinner only, three meals, or three meals and a packed lunch. Writing the week's dinners down in one sitting is usually enough to see which ingredients overlap.

The grocery list is the companion page. It is divided into sections that you name after the aisles of the store you use, with a tick box beside every line, so the list can be walked in order. Fill it in while the meal planner is in front of you, then take only the list to the store.

The cleaning rota is for homes where adults share the work: flatmates, housemates or a couple. You list the people and the jobs, choose the number of weeks, and the jobs are moved one person along each week. Because the pattern is printed, nobody has to remember whose turn it is, and a new housemate can be added by printing a new sheet.
