Cleaning rota for housemates
Housemates down the side, weeks across the top. The cleaning jobs are filled in for you and shift by one person every week, so everyone gets each job in turn.

Tips for using this page
- Use the same number of jobs as housemates when you can. Then every job is done every week and, after as many weeks as there are people, everyone has done everything once.
- If there are more jobs than people, the extra jobs drop out for a week and return later. Check the preview: a job that must happen weekly, such as bins, should not be the one that skips. Combine small jobs into one line to even the numbers up.
- If there are more people than jobs, the job list repeats down the table and two housemates share a job in the same week. Add a light job such as Week off to give each person a free week in turn instead.
- Set the number of weeks to a multiple of the number of housemates so the sheet ends at the point where the pattern starts again, and the next printout continues fairly.
- Agree what each job covers before printing and keep that list somewhere else, such as a note on the fridge. The table has room for a job name of 22 characters, not a description.
- Have each person initial their cell when the job is done. A rota with initials on it settles most disagreements without a conversation.
Questions
How does the rotation work?
In week one the first housemate gets the first job, the second the second, and so on. Each following week every job moves along by one person. The same rule is applied on the page and in the printed sheet.
Can I fix one job to one person?
Not inside the table. Leave that job out of the rotation list and note it in the rule line at the bottom, for example a person who always does the plants.
Can I give the rota to my housemates without printing it?
Yes. Copy the share link and send it: it opens this page with the same names, jobs and weeks filled in. The names are in the link itself, so send it only to the people on it.
Does it work for couples or an office kitchen?
Yes. Two rows is the minimum that makes sense, and up to eight people fit. For an office, type team names instead of people.
