Tips for using this page
- Pick the number of lines to match the day, not your ambition. Eight tall lines suit a day with a few substantial tasks; eighteen suit a day of errands and quick calls.
- Write each task so that it starts with a verb and names the thing: email the quote to Dana, not quote. A line you understand at four in the afternoon is one you will act on.
- The lines are numbered, but the numbers are not a ranking unless you want them to be. If order matters, write the tasks in the order you will do them and work down the page.
- Use the field at the top for the single task that must not slip. It is printed above the list so that it is read before anything else.
- At the end of the day, copy unfinished lines onto the line at the bottom or onto tomorrow's sheet, then recycle the page. A list that is rewritten gets shorter; a list that is kept grows.
- Print a few copies at once and keep them on a clipboard so that tomorrow's page is already there.
Questions
Can I type my tasks before printing?
The task lines are blank for handwriting. You can type the title and the one task to do first; everything else is written on the paper.
What is the second box column for?
It is optional. Started lets you mark work that is under way, and Urgent lets you flag lines in the morning so the important ones stand out.
How many lines fit on a page?
Between 8 and 18. At 18 the lines are close to the spacing of ruled paper, which is the smallest that stays comfortable to write on.
Is there a version for a whole week?
Use the weekly planner, which has a box for each part of each day, or the project task tracker for a fixed set of tasks with stages.
